COA was formed by Pastors Lucia and Davis Mambure as a Christian based support structure for those living with disabilities. The two pastors seek to build new hope and a future, through advocacy for learning opportunities, job creation, health care and overall better living conditions for those living with disabilities.
In the wake of the COVID19 pandemic, families relying on informal trade were left with no source of income as the lockdown restrictions completely shut down their sectors. ChengaOse made a clarion call to well-wishers to join forces with them in averting the imminent food disaster. Zimworx, in the spirit of the win-win-win philosophy, responded to this call by providing financial and logistical support towards food relief. Between May and September 2020, we reached out to close to 400 families with a basic food basket on a monthly basis.
Our first distribution centre was at a primary school in Epworth. Located on the periphery of Harare in the east, the township is to all intents and purposes a rudimentary settlement where just about everything is an improvisation of sorts. Most people live from hand-to-mouth and they cannot afford to buy for the month.” st_subtitle_decoration=”” st_separator_enable=”separator_off” st_text_align=”text-left” st_width=”st_fullwidth” css_animation=”kd-animated fadeIn” css_animation_delay=”200″ css=”.vc_custom_1604922568472{padding-right: 20px !important;}”][vc_empty_space height=”20px”][vc_single_image image=”11027″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center” css_animation=”fadeIn” css=”.vc_custom_1604931865002{padding-right: 20px !important;}”][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″ css=”.vc_custom_1541584821670{padding-left: 20px !important;}”][vc_single_image image=”11026″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center” css_animation=”fadeIn” css=”.vc_custom_1604931873507{padding-left: 20px !important;}”][vc_empty_space height=”40px”][tek_sectiontitle st_title_tag=”” st_subtitle=”This first food distribution exercise was welcomed by ululations and songs giving praise and thanks to God for having remembered them. One-woman beneficiary, a mother to three children living with disabilities, described the exercise as “the first miracle in Epworth”! Indeed, it gave them a ray of hope for another month. We also covered close to 100 families in a town at the outskirts of Harare, called Ruwa.
Our staff too participated in this noble event and were touched by the plight of the less privileged members of society. One of our employees who participated at the exercise had this to say; “I was orphaned at 2 and had a rough upbringing. I thank God I got a second chance for a better life. Being here at Zimworx, being part of this exercise, seeing myself putting a smile on all these mothers and children really makes me feel good. It feels great being part of Zimworx”.
Working in close collaboration with COA our impact was felt in three rural centres in Murehwa District. So dire was the food situation in the rural areas that some people endured long distances coming to the distribution centres. One could easily drop tears at the sight of a mother carrying a child on her back, bags of mealie meal on her head and bottles of cooking oil in her hand.” st_subtitle_decoration=”” st_separator_enable=”separator_off” st_text_align=”text-left” st_width=”st_fullwidth” css_animation=”kd-animated fadeIn” css_animation_delay=”200″ css=”.vc_custom_1604922600717{padding-left: 20px !important;}”][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][tek_sectiontitle st_title=”Gallery” st_title_tag=”” st_subtitle_decoration=”” st_separator_enable=”separator_off” st_text_align=”text-center” st_width=”st_fullwidth”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row full_width=”stretch_row_content”][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”11016″ img_size=”full”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”11017″ img_size=”full”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”11018″ img_size=”full”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row full_width=”stretch_row_content”][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”11019″ img_size=”full”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”11020″ img_size=”full”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”11021″ img_size=”full”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][/vc_column][/vc_row]
